History, nature, society, culture are the primary source of an artist’s work inspiration. The Indian Museum Kolkata has an excellent collection of stone carving sculpture. Especially, the Bharhut gallery relief sculpture fascinates me a lot. Perhaps, curving on the hard stone reminds me of coalminers’ hard works. The stories of Lord Budhha, jataka tales have been beautifully illustrated on stone with plants, animals, and geometric motifs. These two observation; the carving of coal and stone sculpture, amalgamate in my work in the form of printmaking. This set of works shows the juxtaposition of animals and metaphors of the living objects.
